On October 7, our infrastructure partners at Softlayer turned on the switch to their brand-new 15,000 server-capacity data center, their first in the land down under. As a result, Qbox customers can now provision their Elasticsearch instances there as well.
After acquiring Softlayer last year, IBM has so far made good on its $1.2 Billion promise to expand the footprint. We recently published availability in Toronto, London, and Hong Kong. Soon, we will see additional data centers in China, and the first one in India. Data sovereignty in the Post-Snowden era is of large consequence to our customers, so we congratulate them.
One note. Softlayer’s costs in Melbourne are approximately 20% more than in their U.S. data centers, and this cost is passed on to the user.
In addition to Melbourne, Qbox is now available for Houston deployments. Softlayer has been live in Houston, but we are just now getting around to including it.
