Qbox Joins Instaclustr, Plans March 31, 2023, Sunset Date. Read about it in our blog post here.

Next-Gen and Legacy Qbox to sunset on March 31, 2023

You may know that in January Qbox joined forces with Instaclustr, the industry-leading open source data management provider, so we can help customers with features that would have taken Qbox working alone years to produce.

With Instaclustr, we provide multi-cloud solutions, multi-deployment solutions, SOC2 Certification, and a larger portfolio of open source data technologies, including OpenSearch,  Cassandra, Kafka, Redis, Postgres, and Cadence. These are all available to our customers right now when they migrate to Instaclustr.

Even better, California-based storage and data fabric company NetApp acquired Instaclustr in May to advance their portfolio of cloud native data management tools, which include cloud ops leader Spot and cloud management solutions provider CloudCheckr. This means that Qbox is now a part of Instaclustr by NetApp.

Therefore, we are announcing that on March 31, 2023, both Next-Gen and Legacy Qbox will sunset in favor of these vastly improved offerings.

Qbox’s sunset is coinciding with the last Apache2 version of Elasticsearch going end of life. Despite any corporate jargon circulating, all versions of Elasticsearch beyond v 7.10.2 have a proprietary license attached, so it is necessary to carefully evaluate open source investments to avoid vendor lock-in. If a critical bug or security vulnerability like log4j emerges, end-of-life versions will not even be investigated – much less mitigated – by the community that maintains the old Apache2 versions. The path forward is clearly Instaclustr for OpenSearch.

  • Qbox customers have nearly a year to evaluate the new offering and address any challenges associated with migrating from Elasticsearch to OpenSearch. Qbox will personally reach out to all of its active customers via the Qbox ticketing system beginning in June.
  • Depending on which version of Elasticsearch Qbox customers are running, some may need to plan carefully because breaking changes could present obstacles to a smooth cutover. The really good news is that the customer success and consulting specialists at Instaclustr are extremely skilled at migrations and are ready and waiting to help Qbox customers.

As always, we are grateful for our customers and their continued business over the years, and we promise to help make their transition as painless and as rewarding as possible.
